Arsenal cruise past the Saints.

2 min read

An unchanged starting line-up was the main shocker with Aubameang fully out of the squad having missed Friday’s training session sent Arsenal fans buzzing with most expecting the same result at Goodison that saw Arsenal drop their lead only to go on and lose the match courtesy of a Gray wonder strike.

Arteta’s men began on the back foot as the often got caught playing out from the back, opportunities the Saints would go on to rue as a very risky build up saw Lacazette finish a wonderful team goal. Southampton found it hard to get back into the match as the Gunners having found momentum started asking questions only to be answered six minutes later Martin Odegaard doubled the lead.

It could have well been game over with chances coming to the likes of Lacazette, Saka and Martinelli who could have made it five. The Saints continued to threaten but lacked the end product to reduce the deficit as the teams went into half time.

Arsenal looked to continue with the same momentum in the second period. Despite a slow start a disallowed goal proved to be the gun powder for the Gunners as another corner saw him seconds later grab his goal. It should have been four later as Martinelli and Saka both hit the post .

Some attempts by Nathan Redmond and Tella were some of Southampton’s brilliant moments of second half as Arsenal got back to winning ways.
