Malian Souleymane Diabate Leaves Mohammedan SC (Dhaka) After Historic BPL Title Win
One of the most celebrated foreign footballers in recent Bangladeshi football history, Souleymane Diabate, has officially parted ways with Mohammedan SC following a remarkable spell that culminated in the club’s first-ever professional Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title.

The Ivorian striker joined Mohammedan SC in 2019 and quickly became the club’s attacking talisman. Over six seasons, Diabate notched up 112 appearances, scoring 96 goals and providing 30 assists across all competitions. His prolific scoring ability turned him into a fan favorite and a symbol of consistency in the league.
Diabate’s crowning achievement came during the 2024–25 BPL season, where he captained Mohammedan to a long-awaited league title. He scored 19 goals in 16 matches, including a spectacular hat-trick in the season finale against Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club, sealing a 6–1 victory and the championship.
April 2025: Scored a brace in a 2–1 victory over defending champions Bashundhara Kings, a pivotal result in the title race. May 2025: Fired a hat-trick in the final league match, confirming Mohammedan’s triumph. 2023 Federation Cup: Scored all four goals in a dramatic 4–4 final draw before winning in the penalty shootout against Abahani, cementing his status as a big-match player.

Despite his heroics, Mohammedan SC announced on July 10, 2025, that they would not renew Diabate’s contract. The club cited wage demands as the primary reason behind the decision. Reports suggest that the forward is close to finalizing a move to Dhaka Abahani, Mohammedan’s fierce rival, ahead of the upcoming season.
If the move to Abahani is confirmed, Diabate’s transfer would be one of the most high-profile switches in recent BPL history, potentially adding new fuel to the Dhaka Derby rivalry. Fans and analysts expect him to remain among the league’s top scorers, regardless of his new colors.
Diabate leaves Mohammedan as a modern legend — the man who ended decades of title drought and re-established the club as a powerhouse in Bangladeshi football. His journey from consistent scorer to title-winning captain stands as one of the most remarkable stories in the BPL era.
